Privacy Policy for IP Address Tool Extension

IP Address Tool (“we”, “our”, or “the Extension”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

IP Address Tool is designed to provide you with information about your public IP address. To do this, the extension may collect the following:

  1. IP Address Information
    • We use the ipify.org API to retrieve your public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
    • IP addresses are used solely to display your current IP and notify you of any changes.
  2. User Preferences
    • Settings such as dark/light theme, notification preferences, and any other configuration you choose in the extension’s options page.
    • Stored locally in Chrome’s storage.sync or storage.local.
  3. Extension Version Data
    • We track the version of the extension you have installed to show welcome messages and changelogs when the extension updates.
    • No personal identification data is stored for this purpose.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Display your current IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  • Notify you if your IP address changes (if notifications are enabled).
  • Provide theme and display preferences you have selected.
  • Show welcome pages and update changelogs relevant to your extension version.

We do not sell, rent, or share your IP addresses or preferences with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. How We Store and Protect Your Information

  • IP Address Tool stores your settings locally in Chrome’s secure storage (chrome.storage).
  • We do not transmit or store your IP addresses on our servers. Your IP is temporarily retrieved from ipify.org only to display in the extension and trigger notifications if it changes.
  • We implement reasonable technical safeguards to protect your stored preferences and the integrity of the extension.

4. Third-Party Services

The extension relies on ipify.org to retrieve your public IP addresses:

  • ipify.org is a reputable service that provides IP information via a simple API.
  • Your IP addresses are sent to ipify.org only for the purpose of retrieving your current public IP.
  • We do not have access to any other data collected by ipify.org.

5. Permissions

The extension requires the following permissions:

  • storage – To save your preferences and extension settings.
  • notifications – To notify you of changes to your IP addresses.

The extension does not request unnecessary permissions such as tabs or history.

6. Your Choices

  • You can disable notifications in the options page at any time.
  • You can remove or uninstall the extension from Chrome to stop all IP monitoring and storage.
  • Your stored preferences are removed upon uninstalling the extension.

7. Children’s Privacy

This extension is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the extension’s functionality.
When we make changes, we will update the Effective Date above. Users are encouraged to review the policy periodically.
